Energy Projects of CPEC

CPEC (China- Pakistan Economic Corridor) is a group of infrastructure projects in Pakistan that are under construction in Pakistan since May 22nd, 2013. The value of the CPEC project is worth $62 billion as of 2020.

The main purpose of CPEC is to improve the lives of people of Pakistan and China by building an economic corridor promoting bilateral connectivity, constructionexploring potential bilateral investment, economic and trade, logistics, and people-to-people contact for regional connectivity.

Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan’s official message regarding CPEC;

    “CPEC is a great opportunity for Pakistan. CPEC connects us to China which is one of the biggest markets. Because of CPEC, we are developing Special Economic Zones (SEZs) which invite investment across the globe. China is a huge market and the CPEC route will connect China and Pakistan located at the strategic position of world.”

Energy projects:

Sahiwal Coal-Fired Power Plant:

This project was completed on October 28th, 2017 worth   1.912 Billion U.S $. It has the total capacity to generate 1320 MW.

Port Qasim Coal-fired Power Plant (Karachi):

This project was completed on April 25th, 2018 worth 1.912 Billion U.S $. It has a total capacity to generate 1320 MW.

China Hub Coal Power Project:

This project was completed on 14th august, 2019 worth 1.912 Billion U.S $. It has a total capacity to generate 1320 MW located in Hub, Baluchistan.

Thar Coal Power Project:

    This project was completed on 10th July 2019 worth 995.4 Million U.S $. It has a total capacity to generate 660MW.

Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park:

This project is divided into two phases, 400 MW Phase was completed in August 2016; the 600 MW Phase is still in progress in Bahawalpur.

Hydro China Dawood Wind Farm:

This project was completed on April 5th, 2017 worth 122.65 Million U.S $. It is located in Gharo, Thatta, and can generate 50 MW.

UEP Wind Farm:

This project was completed on 16 June 2017 worth 250 Million U.S $ in Jhimpir, Thatta. It can generate 100 MW of electricity.

Sachal Wind Farm:

     This project was completed on 11th April 2017 worth 134 Million U.S $ in Jhimpir, Thatta. It has a total capacity of 50 MW.

Three Gorges Second and Third Wind Power Project:

This project was completed on July 9th, 2018 worth 150 Million U.S $ and has a capacity of 100 MW to generate electricity.

  This project was completed on September 1st, 2021 worth 1658 Million U.S $.
